University of Texas releases images of DKR – Texas Memorial Stadium expansion

Following the Texas Longhorns’ 2017 US$7.5m locker room renovation, the University of Texas is planning an expansion to the Darrell K Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium itself with Texas athletics director Chris Del Conte using social media to unveil renderings of the South End Zone upgrades.

Having already installed a new LED board as well as adding ribbon boards around the stadium, the stand expansion is the next stage of the renovation project.

The expansion will see the inclusion of exclusive suites, clubs, open air concourses, restroom facilities, new coach offices, a banquet kitchen, student seating, private game-day parking, branding graphics, Longhorn Network areas, sports medicine/nutrition areas, hydrotherapy and other support spaces.

Del Conte commented on the stadium’s renovation, "These old stadiums are built in the 30s, they're huge with 100,000 seats and are old-school stadiums. When you walk in, (stadiums) don't have all of the modern amenities. We're spending a lot of money to retro-fit wi-fi, cell towers, all of those things so everyone has connectivity, because that's what fans want today."

For the University of Texas, upgrading the DKR – Texas Memorial Stadium facilities will serve on two fronts: displaying new amenities to recruits while also getting the fans to leave the comfort of their homes.
