Inside Selhurst Park redevelopment plans

Last week, English Premier League club Crystal Palace announced plans to redevelop its Selhurst Park stadium. The club has also released a video, detailing the expansion project, which will see the venue’s capacity increase from 26,000 seats to more than 34,000.

Pontiac Silverdome finally demolished after failed first attempt

They don’t make them like they used to. It took two attempts for the Pontiac Silverdome, the former home of the NFL’s Detroit Lions, to bite the dust. Still standing after the first implosion, it was finally demolished by a second blast to the upper section of the stadium, which has stood in Michigan since 1975

With this in mind, should designers of new stadia, or project managers of renovations, be looking at both on-field and off-field lighting as part of a single solution?

Jersey Reds installs EPOS system at Stade Santander International

IT systems company Club Systems International has announced that Jersey Rugby Football Club – the Reds – has installed the MerlinTouch EPOS system at Stade Santander International.

Initially installed for use in pre- and post-match stadium bar transactions, as well as during half time, the system has now been enhanced for corporate matchday use. Pre-paid cards can be used by members for contactless payments, while wristband functionality has now been added for corporate visitors.

In addition to the use of the MerlinTouch system on 17 cash registers, the club has also opted to use CSI’s ClubV1 could-based admin software.

“I have come from a leisure background and have worked in many clubs and used many systems, but I have found the Club Systems experience and ClubV1 system easy to integrate into the business,” said Jersey club manager Sean Dunne.

“The day-to-day administrative tasks have got a lot easier and become more streamlined, plus the data it provides is outstanding.

“The easy-use smart card to pay for goods at the bar and to obtain entry has gone down well; it’s also been appreciated by our corporate clients who have bar tabs – cashless transactions with our wristbands have been great and, crucially, my average spend per person has gone up … not to mention that my printing costs have also gone down with ticketless entry.

“This system is a must for all clubs: it works for both club and member and has the ability and potential to venture into other areas of the business and create other revenue streams.”
