Texas high school to open 18,000-seat stadium

In a suburb of Dallas, Texas, USA, the Allen Independent School District is in the final stages of preparing for the opening a new US$60 million stadium. Designed by PBK Architects, the multi-purpose, 18,000-seat stadium will be the permanent home of the Allen Eagles high school football team, as well as a multi-purpose venue for a variety of high school and community events.

Plans for a new stadium were approved in 2009, after it was decided that the current 14,000-seat facility was no longer big enough. The new stadium is a sunken bowl design with an elevated deck on the home side. The main concourse level is elevated above grade approximately 10ft, with the playing field approximately 15ft below grade, providing excellent visibility of the field from the concession areas. The venue features a 75x45ft HD video scoreboard, as well as a weights room, a press room and private boxes.

The field is surfaced with a durable synthetic multi-purpose turf system called NaturalGrass Matrix, which has very good drainage properties.

There are two main entry points located at the 50 yard line on the home and visitor sides, as well as four secondary entry points at the corners of the stadium.

The Allen Eagles are due to play their first home game at the new stadium on 31 August.
