AAMI Park wins another award

AAMI Park Stadium in Melbourne has claimed the award for ‘the world’s most iconic and culturally significant stadium’ at the World Stadium Congress in Doha, Qatar.

Following the stadium’s opening in May 2010, the 31,000 seat stadium has become a symbol for rugby and soccer within Australia.

The prestigious awards ceremony celebrated key industry achievements such as engineering excellence in stadium development, the most sustainable design concept, the most innovative use of technology in stadium design, the best multifunctional stadium design and the world’s most iconic and culturally significant stadium.

AAMI Park was selected from an international field of close to a dozen major international sports stadiums that included BKS’s entry for the Mosses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, which hosted matches for the FIFA 2010 South Africa World Cup.

“It is an honour to receive this award, which is recognition for the hard work, innovation and ingenuity of the entire AAMI Park project team including Major Projects Victoria, Cox Architects and Planners, Grocon, Norman Disney & Young and Electolight," says Peter Bowtell, Principal, Arup Project Director. "Projects such as AAMI Park are about providing a place where history is made and become part of the psyche of the community,”
