Obituary - Alex McCrindle, chief executive officer of Lindley Group

It is with great sadness that the directors of Lindley Group announce the death of Alex McCrindle, chief executive officer of Lindley Group. One of the founding members of the Lindley Catering management buy-in team, McCrindle joined forces in July 2001 with Paul Biffen, sales and marketing director, to acquire Lindley Catering from entrepreneur Peter Coates.

“Alex had over 25 years of experience and knowledge of the entertainment and venue management industry and his guiding hand has been very much in evidence in helping us achieve our ambition for Lindley to become the leading sports and leisure venue foodservice company,” said Biffen. “On a personal level, I have lost not only a colleague and mentor, but also a very good friend and my thoughts and condolences are with his family.”

A fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants, McCrindle had been chief executive officer of Lindley since 2004. Together with Biffen and Lindley’s finance director, David Hulme, he was instrumental in creating the business plan that attracted investment from Sovereign Capital and has enabled Lindley to grow to the £50 million-plus turnover business it is today.

“Anyone who worked with Alex would know what a truly wonderful man he was and how his belief in hard work, honesty and loyalty both to his clients and the family of people that make Lindley the business that it is, will be his legacy,” said Hulme.

McCrindle passed away suddenly after suffering a heart attack on 4 November. He leaves his wife Joyce, daughter Cheryl, and son Rory.

“We will all miss Alex enormously. He has been a wonderful colleague and friend whose humility and integrity was recognised and respected by all who came into contact with him,” said Ian Daly, chairman of Lindley Group. “Our job now is to ensure that his values and concern for the people that he worked with live on in the Lindley Group.”
