Otkrytije Arena features seating innovations

The new Otkrytije Arena in Moscow – one of the World Championship 2018 stadia – will feature innovative stadium seats from Stechert

The new Otkrytije Arena in Moscow – one of the World Championship 2018 stadia – will feature innovative stadium seats from Stechert. The Kango and Copacabana models were chosen for their delicate design and optimum stability.

Production of the 45,000 seats began in early January 2014 in Trautskirchen, Germany (Stechert’s production site). The project is due for completion in early May 2014. The seats reflect the colours of Spartak Moscow – ‘pure red’ and ‘traffic white’ – and will be arranged to create the club’s name in the upper and lower tiers. All stadium seats are fixed on crossbars, using a special system that enables the space between the seats to be adjusted. Furthermore, after the 2018 World Championship 2018, the seating capacity can be easily changed.

In 2011, Stechert’s Copacabana model became the first stadium seat in the world to receive the ‘red dot’ design award. This seat, with its ergonomic design and high backrest, will be installed in the business and VIP area (4,000 seats). The plastic (polypropylene) parts of the seat, as well as the upholstery, had to fulfil a climate test at -40°C in order to guarantee that the model would be suitable for Russia’s extreme climate.

All parts of the Kango Smart also had to undergo such tests. Kango Smart is also known as the ‘younger brother’ of Copacabana because both seats have the same width. Kango Smart only differs in terms of the back part of the seat. With identical ergonomics, the seat has a favourable price/performance ratio. The seat debuted at the Weser‐Ems‐Halle arena in Oldenburg, Germany.

Stechert was up against a lot of competition for the contract. “We are very happy that we were the winner of this tender and we are convinced that this club will receive a stadium of its own class”, says Franz Stegner, CEO and managing director of Stechert Stahlrohrmöbel GmbH.
