MLB debuts temporary ballpark at Fort Bragg

First-of-its-kind ballpark was constructed to host game for military families over US holiday weekend

Major League Baseball, in partnership with Fort Bragg in North Carolina, debuted a temporary ballpark, designed by Populous, to host a regular season game between the Atlanta Braves and Miami Marlins – in celebration of US military families and held over the Fourth of July holiday. The occasion marks the first time in US history that a professional sport has staged a regular series game at an active military base.

Fort Bragg Field had a seating capacity of 12,500, with the majority of seats reserved for US service members and their families. As the event counts as a part of the regular season for both teams, the field was designed to strict MLB standards.

Announced in March, the project revitalized the grounds of a former golf course in less than four months and stands as the first effort to bring regular season games to non-traditional venues. The event will also be the first MLB game ever played in the state of North Carolina.

Following the game, the stadium will be broken down and the space converted into a permanent multipurpose recreation facility for those who serve at Fort Bragg.
